A return

*taps microphone* Hello? Is this thing on? Can anyone hear me?

Let’s see, last time we left off, I said I was moving back to Colorado, but forgot to mention I moved away in the first place. oops.

Still in Colorado, and loving it. We built a new house in south Denver after searching for a resale home. Decided that with the crazy Denver housing market, we didn’t want to deal with any bidding wars, or being rushed into making a decision and making an offer. That, and we never found anything we fell in love with. We do love our new home though, and watching the build process was fun and agonizing at the same time. We’ve been in the new house for about six months now, and it definitely feels like home...has for a while, actually.

Sadly, on June 26, 2016, my mom died. She started noticing some symptoms of some headaches and not being able to find the right words when she spoke in April or May of 2016. Went to the doctor, all the tests and scans came back normal. In mid May, she got dizzy and went to the hospital. She was already scheduled for an MRI the next week, but they did it sooner. They found a tumor in her brain, roughly the size of a baseball, and it was primarily affecting the speech portion of her brain. A biopsy eventually revealed it to be an anaplastic astrocytoma.

She chose not to pursue treatment, which came as no surprise to any of us kids. Thankfully, all three of us kids were able to make it to see her for what would be the last time. At first, she was still in the hospital, and then we went back to her home on Lopez Island, WA. Even before we had the official biopsy results, we all knew this was it.

She went through the process of opting for “Death with Dignity” (all three kids supported her), and the day before she was scheduled to take the final medicine, she slipped into a coma. Thankfully, she died naturally about 12 hours later. We’ll miss you, mom.
