WHAT DO YOU CALL:

1. A body of water, smaller than a river, contained within relatively narrow banks.

5. The piece of furniture that seats three people.

6. The device on the outside of the house that carries rain off the roof.

windowshade or shade, depending on the context. I'd be likely to use "windowshade" in more formal situations or where it's less clear what I'm likely to be talking about (as in, "I should go buy some new windowshades for the dining room"), while I might use "shade" in situations where the context is clear ("Wow, the sun's really blinding. Could you please lower the shade behind you?").

23. A new, limited access, multi-lane road.

highway

For me, the general term is always highway. I only use other terms when referring to a specific road, such as, "the GW Parkway" or "Interstate 95".

24. Heavy garments worn for work.

I'm not sure what is meant here. Coveralls have sleeves, overalls don't.

25. An area of trees, greater than an acre.

forest

26. The highest grade of gasoline.

premium

27. A drink made of ice cream put through the blender.
