hey strangers! i only have one main resolution this year: see how many goods i can buy that ARE NOT made in CHINA. if i don't need it right away, i'll shop around for alternatives. so far, i've managed to get erik's yearly underwear, socks, and new scrubs for work not made in china, and a couple of new skillets, not made in china. yeay me!

hi, jonni!!!
is the not china thing due to the safety problems? or for other reasons? has it been difficult to find things?

Hey! I sent a Christmas card to you but it came back. It's sitting on my desk, glaring at me. Woe!

and, yes, but what about birthdays?!

We're not all gone, though I'm not sure if I have your correct phone #... Would love to chat or see you if you're up to it. Oh. I'm going to a conference in San Francisco next month and an entire session of the conference is devoted to watching/singing along to/analyzing "Once More With Feeling." Should be fun...

I made some resolutions, too, but I think I've created as many problems, so... Not sure if that counts for anything.

Best birthday: Celebrated turning 18 in Washington, D.C. with sisters before my brother's wedding. fyi: don't actually eat at a Hard Rock Cafe if you ever go into one. The food is mediocre and way overpriced. BUT, it was an amazing trip.

Worst birthday: Was in a car accident the day before I turned 12.

I have had several of the mediocre, in-between kind.

Most anticipated birthday: Actually, turning 30 will be kinda fun, if the party goes off as planned. I will turn 30, John turns 40 and a couple of good friends of mine turn 50 the same year, so we're having a decade party. Also, one of my 50 year old friends has a son who will be 20 that year also.
Funny how chronology works...

i've actually done both! went to a hard rock cafe and eaten, and went and hung out with friends. that's awesome that you had an amazing trip! i still need to go there (d.c.)!! was there something seen or done specifically that stands out or was it mostly about being with family, esp at such an exciting time?

For the birthday celebration, nothing specifically stands out. For the D.C. experience--aside from the wedding--visiting the Holocaust Museum with my grandmother was... life-changing... in some aspects. I'd never heard my grandmother speak so openly about WWII before (she was 11 when Pearl Harbor was attacked). I do remember also going to the Air and Space Museum to see the Enola Gay exhibit (the bomber that dropped the first atomic bomb on Japan). For better or worse, my hometown was integral to the Manhattan Project and, accordingly, we have a peculiar type of... affection, I'd call it... for things nuclear. My high school team name was the Bombers, symbolized officially by a mushroom cloud--yes, you can gasp in shock, disgust, and exclaim, if you wish--but also unofficially by a B-17 bomber called Day's Pay. (The workers at the Hanford nuclear site, known as "The Area" all contributed a day's wage to the purchase of said plane.) I was wearing my letterman's jacket with my mushroom cloud insignia on the back when I went through the ( ... )
