It's one thing to wake up in a forest. It's a completely different thing waking up in a room-- a suffocatingly packed room full of people.

That's the first thing Adachi notices when he stirs from his futon. It's difficult to not notice anything else. The amount of people crammed in this room is simply impossible.

Or maybe it's just Adachi's mind distorting how many people are around him. It's pretty easy to do when you reject so much of your previous reality. But for whatever reason, the urge to pick up his belongings and move to a corner is more overwhelming than anything else.

His urge to escape is already off the charts right now, but as he scans the room, he can recognize some of the faces. Damn it. So, instead of picking up his futon, he tries his best to play the role he had in Inaba, even as he feels the dull throb that indicates a headache is coming.

As Adachi rubs a hand through his hair in an attempt to quell the throbbing, he shoots a question at anyone who'll listen, "It's another event, huh?"

Souji's aware of Adachi's presence. He's been watching him for a little while. There's really not much better to do, considering both Rise and Yukiko have disappeared, leaving only him, Yousuke, and Kanji to deal with Adachi.

Not that he wants to deal with him right now. With Adachi, it's always mind games, and the dull, mostly intangible ache throbbing somewhere in the vicinity of his diaphragm is a signal that he probably can't handle that right now.

So he doesn't answer Adachi's question, although he hears it. He doesn't do anything but continue to watch him quietly.

Adachi notices that he can't find the girls' faces either. Pinpointing all the kids' locations wasn't an unfamiliar process, and as usual, keeping the realization from showing on his face is an easy task. Two less teenagers are here to annoy him. That should make the pain go away for a bit, but it hardly does a thing.

And of course he feels Souji's eyes on him. Paranoia can sometimes come at an advantage. In fact, he'd go so far as to blame this dull aching on the kid.

Maybe Adachi can ignore him. Most of the threats he'd made to Souji during that one event were empty ones. He has better things to keep his attention on, anyhow, and bugging Souji just seems like an endless chore. Maybe if Souji were actually responsive, he might lock eyes with him. But as it is, his gaze drifts over to the teenager's direction for a short moment before leaving.

And even if he wanted to bother Souji right now, there's no way to effectively lock messages in a very public room like this. That is, unless he chose text, and he just doesn't feel like it.

Souji promised Yousuke he wouldn't approach Adachi on his own again. He isn't sure that it could possibly count as "alone" when everyone in Wonderland is crammed into the same space, but he's pretty sure that what Yousuke had in mind be "alone" was "without me or Kanji".

So he finds his comm device among his things and, after gratefully noting that the network is still functioning, sends Adachi a locked text message.

do you have your gun?

This event doesn't seem to be affecting him too much aside from the urge to bundle up in a corner and ignore everyone else. The loneliness he feels at this moment isn't any different from how he felt in that shit of a town. Maybe it's just that it's impossible for him to disconnect even further?

Adachi's jostled from his thoughts when his communicator vibrates in his pocket. He glances in Souji's direction after he reads the message. His freehand subtly feels where his gun should be, and then he writes his message with a blank look on his face. If that's how he wants to do this, fine. But Adachi's extra paranoid than usual, with all these people around who could possibly catch them texting.

maybe. why? you dont think im going to be stupid enough to use it in here with all these people though do you?

Somehow, Souji's managing to bother Adachi even through text. It's probably because they're in the same room and he can't do anything, but maybe it's the same on Souji's end? He can only guess. He shoots the teenager a quick glance before sending a response.

oh come on. give me some credit here. its like you underestimate me just as much as i think your stupid.

you have to admit, your self-control hasn't been that great since you got here.

wrong.

Souji clicks the send button and then cuts the feed, turning his device off. If Adachi has anything else to say, he can come right on over and say it.

...What. You've got to be kidding. The kid didn't honestly just... Adachi gives his communicator a shocked look. Fine. Since Souji wants to talk to him so badly...

Ugh, this is a horrible idea, but it looks like there are less people in that direction... At the very least, Adachi prove his theory of Souji being the cause of his erupting migraine.

With a blank look, the police detective stands and makes his way over to Souji, leaving the futon he'd claimed behind with the intent of coming back. His communicator is still in his hand as he stops near Souji.

"You really want to hear my voice that badly, huh?" The tone he uses would come off as teasing to anyone else.

But in reality, it's as much as he can taunt the kid in a crowded room like this.

Souji looks up at him from where he's sitting on the floor. "Doesn't hanging up on someone normally mean you don't want to talk to them?"

Adachi grimaces down at the teenager. "It's hard to tell with a guy like you, kid. You're not exactly easy to read."

At the very least, his headache hasn't worsened yet. Maybe that was something?

But he's starting to think all the guesses he made about this kid were completely wrong... What was the point to any of this? This kid had to be the least emotional brat he's ever ran into. Why was he so impossible?

"Besides, we weren't done talking."

Miguel was just heading for some food, but spins and sends a little salute at the man who spoke. "Seems to be!"

Oh. It's that guy. "At least you'll be kept in check, hm?"

The laughs they haaaave...

Adachi's response is automatic. "It's weird, though. It feels like the last one was just a few days ago!"

Oh, great. Hello, guy who basically shared stick-figure porn with him. Wasn't that a fun time? "Hey, could you do me a favor and not, you know, spread that around? That event was really weird for me. I don't normally do things like that, y'know?"

He has to be imagining the pain getting worse.
