The earthquake had Bro on immediate alert. With sporadic power and the aftershocks showing no sign of dying down, he's keeping a very close eye on certain people. He won't engage, not unless approached first or in dire circumstances, because as the day goes on it just seems a better idea to keep to himself. It's a mild disconnect, nothing he's not used to dealing with, but as long as he has Cal he can deal.

Of course, if you happen to be Dave, John, Jade or one of the trolls, or otherwise fall into a category of needing extra protection (very young and/or limited defence) just because he's saying nothing doesn't mean he's not lurking very closely. Hard to hide in a place like this, too.

John's starting to get some of that stir crazy, despite his best efforts to stay busy. And kissing a girl. Santana.

He kissed Santana and he still has the mopeys.

At least all the earthquaking gives him something else to think about. While he cowers on his futon, curled under a blanket.

Looks like time for Bro to do his thing. He's not an expert, not by any means, but just because his methods of raising Dave were a little questionable doesn't mean he hasn't got the whole big brother thing figured out.

He perches on the end of John's futon, glancing over. "What's up, kid?"

Oh, Bro. Mr. Strider, to some, like Jade. The cool guy. Cooler than Dave.

Can't. Let him. See the mopeys.

A big, forced smile spreads across his cheeks. "Not much. What's shaking with you?" Hahaha. Puns.

Bro gives him a slight, genuine smile. Not something he deals out often but if anyone wanted to question the inherent coolpoints in looking after a kid in need then they could build a bridge and get over it.

"You mean aside from this whole damn place? I ain't cutting myself off from people so I'd say I'm doing better than a lot of people here. So spill it. Maybe I can help."

John sighs, dropping the fakey fakeness. "I just feel...sad. I dunno."

He bunches the blankets tighter around his chin. "I keep thinking about my dad."

Bro nods. Sure, Dave and his friends are kids with wicked powers and grit to keep fighting their way through the game, but they're still kids. And this isn't a situation kids should be forced into.

He reaches out to place a hand on his shoulder. Or, well, an approximation of his shoulder given the blankets. "This place seems to be doin' that. The making everyone feel sad thing, I mean. And I know I ain't your dad but I ain't gonna let anything bad happen to you, okay? You're Dave's friend, that means you're my responsibility in the absence of anyone more closely related."

No, technically he didn't have to care. But somehow that didn't stop him from doing it anyway.

John exhales shakily, still emotional, but in a different way. He smiles sheepishly at Dave's Bro, rubbing at his nose awkwardly.

"You're really cool, Mr. Strider."

Bro smirks a little, trying to lighten John's mood just a little. "Naturally. I'm a Strider, that's pretty much our purpose in life."

Taking a more serious tone, he adds, "I'm glad my little bro's got friends like you. He doesn't reach out to many people, you know?"

Largely because neither does he. But that's aside from the point.
