It took a strength George didn't realize she had to make it this long. Her every adolescent fear and insecurity seemed to come up at once and scream into her face, and yet she didn't explode, like some people.

Maybe that means she's an adult.

Either way, making it through means she has more questions about this place than she did before. The explosions and the giant statue that looks suspiciously like Rei weren't just going over her head.

George approaches Rei, but not too close. She doesn't really want to get anywhere near that lake of...orange.

"Can you tell me now?"

"Yes." Rei turns to George, facing her as a smaller scale version of the giant corpse in the distance.

"Third Impact was the meeting of Adam and Lilith through a specific vessel. All AT Fields were destroyed, returning humans to their base elements. All souls were drawn back into the Chamber of Guf. All beings united."

Okay. There's a few questions that need answering from that, still.

"That's what just happened, right? And our base elements turned into...this Orange Julius stuff?"

"This is LCL. It is the blood of Lilith, from which all Lilith-based life is formed."

Right. Okay, that's still gross.

"And the vessel? Is that the...statue of you?"

"Corpse."

Rei turns and looks at it again.

"Ayanami Rei is the vessel of Lilith. But it is the next one that merged."

Wh...at?

"I...thought you were Rei."

"I am the second."

"The giant is the first?"
