Oh, there's no place like home for the holidays,
‘Cause no matter how far away you roam
If you want to be happy in a million ways
For the holidays, you can’t beat home, sweet home
OH GOSH, WHATEVER COULD THAT MEAN. It means it's time for our annual Christmas event! This year's going to be a little bit...different though.
It won't start out different though. When the clock strikes midnight on December 18th, there will be a loud commotion going on all throughout the mansion. Those who were here last year might remember this and groan and wish the mansion would just let you sleep, but it's on a decorating mission! Just like every year, the mansion is going to decorate itself for Christmas - garland will race down the halls, stockings will be hung for everyone, and the main hall will sprout its own gigantic tree (a real tree, of course) that will trim itself with lights and ornaments and ribbons. And actually, if you look a bit closer, there are some one-of-a-kind ornaments - they feature the faces of everyone in Wonderland, making faces they would often be caught making in real life. And oh by gosh by golly, the mansion's decided it's time for mistletoe and holly. The mansion goes wild with the decorating each year, and makes sure it's a very magical experience.
Unfortunately, this year it's a little too magical. The decorating will be interrupted by a very loud CRACK, followed by the shattering of glass, and then silence.
Let's start with the most immediately noticeable - every mirror in the mansion will have broken, but instead of leaving a portal behind, there's just a frame, like if an ordinary mirror shattered. And suddenly, the mansion is twice as crowded - everyone's Mirror counterparts have been transported from their homes on the other side of the glass to the real side. Everyone is on the same side of the glass. For this event, post as you normally would, with Mirrors in
mirroruniverse and Real Things in their journals. Anyway, without Mirrors to go through, the Mirrors have nowhere else to go. Each character's room will now have a room next door meant to accommodate their Mirror (though the Mirrors are free to go elsewhere if they would rather). For example, Room 1 on the first floor would have a Room 1b next door. Eway Christmas is considered an event, so only the Real Side usually gets decorated anyway. In other words, this will be most Mirrors' first real Eway Christmas.
But that doesn't explain that alarming crack though. The answer to that one is outside. Out on the way to the chessboard hills, there's this odd ripple in the air. The area is covered in snow, but some might remember the spot as where the Jabberwocky was defeated, and the
scar that it left behind. Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that a hole has been ripped through the air itself. And through that hole is home.
No, really. Stick your hand through. Take a good look. That's home, and you can climb right through the rip to get there.
When people climb through, they'll probably notice three things immediately. The first is that it's winter, no matter what point in time you came from. Even if they came from the hottest day of summer, they'll still find that it's the holiday season (for whatever significant Winter holidays occur in their world - Christmas, Hanukkah, Yule, made up fantasy holidays, anything. If there's really nothing, it's still Winter anyway). The second is that the rip the jumped through is still behind them, revealing Wonderland, and that there are many other rips to other people's worlds. You might start out in Lima Ohio and wind up in Homestuckland or Kansas or Hogwarts or wherever. In each world, there's always a rip that leads to Wonderland, just in case you want to go back. Finally, the third is that there is absolutely no one in any of these worlds except those from Wonderland. It looks suspiciously abandoned - cars left in driveways, Christmas lights on, there are certainly signs that people live there, but there's no one around.
And of course, if this is too lonely or you're not much of a multidimensional explorer, Wonderland is always there to welcome you home.
Now for the technical details. If two people are standing side by side looking into it, they'll each see their own home worlds. You can bring someone to your world by having them hold your hand as you climb through the rip with them. You could theoretically bring a long chain of people to your world as long as you're the one who goes first. The worlds are limitless, to an extent (since there's no one around to fly airplanes or sail ships unless your character happens to fit that description), but we imagine people will be more inclined to stay in the general vicinity of where they're from. If you do venture farther though, the rips will continue appearing and there will always be a Wonderland rip nearby. The rips will be open for the duration of the event. Yes, everyone's journals will work while they're in another world.
And finally, the Mirrors again. Some might be too afraid to attempt it, but they can travel through the rips if they would like to as well. However, things are a little...different, for them. If a Mirror goes through one of the rips, they will lose their physical form. They won't die; if they go back through the rip they'll be fine. But going through those rips leaves them just a pale shadow of who they are, sort of faint and ghost-like. They can pass through things as if they aren't really there. As if they aren't...real, you could say. Since they aren't from a world other than Wonderland to begin with, they will start at their Real Thing's home world, and they're free to explore like everyone else, but they can't pick up things or touch anyone. Everyone is able to see them.
Annnnd that's about it for this part! Check back on Monday night Tuesday morning to hear what's up next. You can use this as a plot post, and we'll have the usual FAQ going. There's also a thread for people to post about their respective worlds. Anyway, have fun, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and so on!
