Otherwise known as "OH MY GOD YOU GUYS, ARE WE MOVING TO DREAMWIDTH?"

The short answer is we're still talking about it as mods. Before I get into that though, let me outline exactly what's going on for those who haven't gotten many of the details.

Details on Release 88 and all of the issues surrounding it. )

Account creation at DW doesn't need invite codes at the moment, probably because someone at DW has seen the LJ news post uproar and thought that hmm, lots of people might be looking for a new blog. ANYWAY. I think that's only true for a week or so, so by the 5th January that might no longer be true. But I'm making a bunch of accounts over there right now, so if we do end up moving, I should be able to help out with invite codes. (Hopefully you don't need a paid account to give out codes.)

Good god I can't type coherently today, mea culpa.

tl;dr I might be able to give out invite codes if we do end up moving.

That's super awesome of you to offer your invite codes! We might not need to worry about it at all if we do move though, because if we talk to Dreamwidth, they can send us a promo code that we can distribute to eway users so they can make all of their accounts again. ♥ And from what I've heard on the grapevine, they're being really awesome about helping RP communities move over.

Of course, that doesn't mean that backing up journals right now while the open creation program is going on isn't a good idea, whether we do decide to move or not. I just know people tend to be plagued with Holiday Craziness this time of year, and it occasionally lasts through New Year's, so I don't want anyone to have to worry if they don't make an account before the promotion ends? :D;

And that is the story of how DW proved themselves to be more customer-friendly than anyone on the LJ staff.

For real, I am glee over the promo code idea. That bodes well for them doing stuff for the userbase rather than despite it. :D

So I was derping around looking at RP stuff on DW, and someone's maintaining a post of information about roleplaying on DW versus LJ. Stuff like longer usernames allowed, longer posts and comments allowed, fancy tag stuff, the slightly different way friending works, that sort of thing.
