The Goings on in my Life

Sep 15, 2008 06:23

In summary, this is what's been going on this week: football, hurricanes, floods, sinusitis, and Aislynn's 2nd birthday. Oh, and a lot of angst, but I'll leave that out until a later date.

1. American football started! YES!! Oh how I missed you so. I would sit all Sunday watching you with my dad and we'd swear at the players for bad plays together. I would do all the celebrating though, since Dad's kinda old and he would never act like a fairy, so I do it for him. I got to take out my beloved Peyton Manning jersey and wear it last Sunday, even though the Indianapolis Colts ended up losing to Da Chicago Bears. (I like the Bears too, but not as much as my Colts or Titans) However, the Colts beat the Vikings yesterday with a second half comeback. So it seems that Indy and ChiTown are tied in the win/lose record of (1-1) since the Bears lost to the Carolina Panthers. This season will rock I'm sure. I just miss watching football with my daddy, since now I'm on my own and Mike doesn't care for football, or any sports for that matter.

2. So Hurricane Ike decided to attack my sister that lives in Houston. She fled a few more miles inland to stay with some friends. Her boyfriend is up in Indiana for a vacation (he had plans before the hurricane) and he can't get back home until they open the airport again. She called me last night to talk and to wish Aizzie a happy bday. In two days she's had about five hours of sleep total, since as she put it, you can't sleep through a hurricane. I believe her. She returned to her apartment to find that her ceiling's caving in and that the light fixtures are dropping like flies onto the floor. On that note, she's going to stay with friends until its fixed. She said the devastation is unreal: debris is scattered everywhere, power has not been restored, many windows have been blown out. She had to wait in line to get INTO the grocery store yesterday, which took an hour, and all that was left was junk food and snacks. But I have to commend her; she learned to be positive over this whole catastrophe and that nothing is more important than family and friends.

3. After Ike destroyed Texas, he decided to hit Chicago. Our rainfall totals are over 10 inches and the area is flooded. When Mike and I were driving to my mom and dad's house, we had to reroute so many times it was unreal. It reminded me of the computer game "The Oregon Trail". We had to decide whether to go over the flooded streets, or go around them and it took about an hour, instead of the usual 30 mins or so to travel. The off and on ramps of I-65 and US 231 were flooded so bad that most people avoided them. After I saw a few trucks and SUV's make it through the floodwater, I wanted to join. However Mike freaked out and I had to go another way. On the way back home, I decided to take 65 just for the sheer fun of getting to "ford a river" like in the game. The offramp scared a few people into backing up onto the interstate again, but I wasn't afraid. I had my kinda trusty navigator/first mate Mike to judge how deep the water was as I started my journey across the 300 foot long pond/lake/river. At one point the water touched the undercarriage and caused a shitload of steam, but we made it through without any damage. I won dammit! I defeated the mighty flood with my sports car. Kneel down and worship me! :D

4. Every single year I get a bad case of Sinusitis (that's doctor talk for a sinus infection) and it drives me insane. It feels like my head's going to explode and I can't do much to stop it. I stole some Sudafed from my mom last night and took a dose before bed in hopes that it would help me sleep better. I forgot that taking Sudafed before bed never works out well for me. Not only does it dry out every mucous membrane in my face to the point of pain, I also wake up every 15 mins. This is the reason why I've been up since 4AM and I'm on livejournal. I gave up trying to sleep for a while. After I post this, I'm going to try again so that I'm not a complete zombie when I get Aizzie's two year pics taken sometime later.

5. Aislynn Michelle turned two yesterday. We had a mini party at my parents' house, complete with cake, presents, and pizza. Her favorite gift has to be the kitchen set my parents got her. She literally spent hours playing with it. She boiled the toast, not heeding our suggestion to boil the potato or carrot. She even tried to cut her own cake with her play knife, but we caught her before harm was done (c'mon, could you imagine the mess of frosting and cake if it fell onto the floor??) Aizzie partied hard and fell asleep on the way home.

Now that its past 7 AM, I'm going to try and get a few more hours in of sleep. Good night everybody, and enjoy your day/week. ^_^
