I hear that American Gangster (which came out today) is far more appealing than that. I personally haven't seen either 30 Days of Night or American Gangster, but 30 Days sounds like something that will make your head would explode after 3-4 times.

I trust IMDb for almost everything (even my life). I've seldom been misled by its user ratings.

I've seen it and would recommend it. Especially if you like action, bloodshed, and general carnage. There are some compelling moments when the characters choose certain questionable actions. It has an apocolyptic atmosphere of isolation and doom. Main flaws are pacing, dreadful dialogue, and the director took massive liberties with the graphic novel.

The only sucking "30 Days of Night" did was bloodsucking, but I've heard some rather unfavorable reviews of it as well. As a vampire fan that enjoys a bit of carnage here and there, I liked it. It was well made. Good shots, decent story, scary as hell villains... it's no "300" but it's good. Three or four times watching it successively might be a bit much, but for a first run-through it was good.
