This past week I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a new car. As many of you know I have had a Volkswagon R32 for about a year and a half. It was fun, cute, fast, nimble, rugged, and rare (unless you work on the East side...). On the flip side, it was moderately expensive ( Read more... )

Though my vote went for your other choice in this long birthing process, and you ignored all advice yet again :), the 3 is a great car. On your r32; it was an expensive Golf, which it looked like except for the staggering number of extra plastic bits. It was as heavy as an APC, and it didn't seem that rare when there were like 4 for sale on micronews at any given time... so I'm not sure about cute, nimble, or for that matter "rugged" when the seat clip clippy handle thing came off in your hand. ;) As opposed to the 3.2L gas mileage, I first noticed the good looking but totally uncomfortable seating ( ... )

Considering I was rear ended and only the bumper cover needed to be fixed (and the others person car was totalled), I consider that pretty rugged.

You'd be surprised how easily insurance companies total a vehicle. It is often just cheaper for them to pay out to total a vehicle than face expensive body work. You know how much your plastic bumper cost, so imagine repairing a whole front end. For an older car it just isn't cost effective at one point.
