According to the Beeb they've spread to Nottingham, Bristol, Birmingham and Liverpool. I get the impression it's just spiralling out of control. This senseless violence has been increasing for some time on a small scale according to my dad who lives in Farnborough, even he gets worried at night and he lives away from the town centre in a supposedly peaceful (mainly council) housing estate, but says he keeps a large knife ready at night just in case!! Like it or not, I think the government has to take a firm step, maybe introduce a curfew and call in the army, to restore some sort of order. Glad to hear you and your sis are OK. She must have been absolutely terrified last night. Hope she managed to get some sleep. Hugs to you both
I think your dad's got the right idea - I have my old hockey stick next to my bed!
Apparently they already have a curfew in place around here for under-18s (11pm apparently) but clearly that's not working right now. I think bringing in the army might be the only solution.
She was terrified - they herded everyone upstairs in the pub she ducked into when the rioters started attacking the front of it and then she realised that, if they set the place on fire, she'd have no way out. Not ideal, but at least she's okay.
Hope your dad's okay, honey. ♥ Can't believe it's spreading to other cities - THIS IS NOT AN EXAMPLE TO FOLLOW, PEOPLE! -_-
Obviously the police are not being strict enough with the curfew, although all things considered they've got their hands full now with everything else. Cameron just said they won't bring in the army but have cancelled all holiday leave for the police force. Although I think that's likely to lead to a lot of constables going on medical leave for stress.
I feel so sorry for what your sister had to go through, hope she's managing OK.
I think Farnborough's pretty safe, but dad's not taking any chances. You do well to keep your hockey stick or large spanner by your bed. Make sure you and your sis keep your mobiles charged.
Also it's all so surrealistic. You and your sis take care now
I think they might have to call in the army soon, though, no matter what they're saying right now. There's just not enough manpower, otherwise. People are attacking anyone in uniform, be they police, firemen or paramedics.
Will keep mobile charged. I'm thinking straight home after work tonight and no going out (although I wouldn't, really, because it's a work night, so. I's a good girl, I am!)
Very glad to hear you're alright, and your sister too. Stay safe over the next couple of days.
I can't believe this shit - I know the comments on behaviour etc have been going on forever, but I honestly can't believe this of people in Britain.
It's totally senseless, because if they're complaining about not having jobs this isn't exactly going to help the job market is it - especially not when they're burning down and bankrupting the SMEs that might have hired them. And if they're complaining about the restrictions on the emergency services budget... well sure, making sure 90% of London's services are all paying attention to you is *really* going to help.
Sorry for the rant, you know all this, I just can't grab any of those tossers by the nuts atm to rant at them. *shakes them all*
Don't apologise for the rant, sweetie. I completely agree with you! People are saying that it's because of the lack of jobs...bullshit. If you're willing to work at anything, there are jobs avaliable.
Hell, even I managed to find someone to hire me! ^_^
People are morons. Seriously, some of the things they're doing are just pathetic. Also, police dogs have been attacked. Now, that's just not necessary!
I'm glad you and your sister are safe. It sounds really scary. I think it's moved far beyond a cause to become mindless vandalism and thuggery. My mam's cousin lived in Enfield, not sure if that's near you.
I don't get how it has suddenly spread to other cities, like it's something that should be copied. Hopefully the police will come up with some way of bringing the riots under control. I sincerely hope that they're able to prosecute some of the offenders.

I think it's that whole mob mentality thing. All; look, London's getting away with being sheer, bloody idiots! So can we!
Twatheads. -_-
