All Things Happen For A Reason....Not!

All along I had quite oily skin, and the few rogue spots that plagued the face of your average male singaporean living in a sweltering country full of char kway tiao and chicken rice. But it was manageable, and most of the time all I had to do was irradiate it in the sun, or dab on some clearasil.

A few months back, something happened. I got ( Read more... )

my experience is that antibiotics doesn't do much good... the acne may subside while you're taking it, but it comes back pretty soon. I took isotretinon a few years back... think it's similar to accutane? it's effective, but the skin and mucous membranes get pretty dry... gotta stay out of the sun. think I took it for 6 months or so(can't remember)...skin was quite clear after completing treatment, but started having some acne problems again after abt 6 mths. now still have some, but much much lesser than before treatment.

yeah thanks! isotretinoin is the drug...damn can't go diving no more... how long did it take before you saw results? and was your dosage gradually increased?

can't really remember how long it took...probably a month or 2. dosage remained the same for the treatment period. one of ur friends commented on retin A... tried that for a period of time previously, but it wasn't as effective as isotretinoin, and I think the acne started being resistant to it after some time. of course, retin A probably has lesser side effects compared to isotretinoin since it's applied on the skin only, while isotretinoin can affect the liver etc.

accutane is indeed a miracle drug, and it works for most people. however you do need to take it on a long term basis for it to have a permanent effect.

the side effects of dry skin and sensitivity to sunlight is a bitch though.

screw the dry skin, screw the photosensitivity, as long as it makes the zits go away. were you ever on it? how long before results?

u can start seeing results within the month... u find the oil drying up (which is what accutane does... it shrinks your oil glands) and u keep this up for a few months... even if the acne doesn't completely go away eventually... the residual effect is tremendous.

I think antibiotics are useless.. i have 6 months worth of doxy stocked up but un-consumed.

I think accutane is much better. Use it and just be wary about the UV rays. I use it only when I have a terrible outbreak.. otherwise, I give it a miss.. because the dry skin gets on my nerves as well.

No worries, ur encounter will be over soon.. apply, take a few days break, and apply again... to lessen the drying effects.
