STOP THE HYPERVENTILATING!!

Last night, furrbear steered me to a raging discussion flying around about President Obama and a Justice Department filing on DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act)...mostly based on extremely poor reporting and intentional flaming by John Aravosis' "Americablog" (no, I'm not providing a link to something that would not have gotten a passing mark on content and ( Read more... )

As a sidebar (and I will be journaling this) a recent Ohio State University study, it's interesting to note that Conservatives are more likely to read opposing views than liberals.

I caught this nuggest on Friday at work as I was glancing at the TV in our lunchroom. I think Glen Beck had it on his show on Fox News but checking the www.foxnews.com archives, if you look it up, you can see a video of the discussion.

I am not necessarily happy with what I've read on both sides of the DOMA in recent days but c'mon, did anyone expect the government to just roll over because a Democrat got elected?

Sheesh.

Studies I've seen from other sources indicate the exact opposite. Frankly, I wouldn't believe Beck if he said the sky was blue and water was wet - the man's INSANE.

Well it wasn't just Beck spouting it.

Here's links backing the study, but as I dug further, it was not given proper credity but Brigham Young University was the source, so who knows?

As far as I'm concerned, the far-right conservatives and the ultra-left liberals both have their heads up their backsides so far that they are intolerant toward *DISCOURSE*. Nothing is gained by cutting off a respectful debate, but everything is lost when there is no desire to understand opposing points of view and no flexibility.

Thank you, Dean. I hadn't paid a lot of attention at the time, but felt the disappointment. This whole thing has clarified my thinking considerably.
