walking

Ryeowook thinks it’s been an easy day. The shop isn’t very busy, seeing it is a school night, so he’s been given permission to head home. Ryeowook is walking along an old street, years of labor forming the road. There are young students walking with their friends, chattering cheerfully. Ryeowook smiles and suddenly feels nostalgic. How long has it been since he was a student? Many years, he thinks. He closes his eyes and can almost feel the confining fabric across his torso. He doesn’t miss it. Adult life isn’t all that great either, but it is paradise compared to his childhood days.

Ryeowook noticed that the first whispers of dusk have settled in. He picks up his speed and shifts the bag across his bag. It’s heavy, but he’s used to it by now. Birds are shrieking in the distance, calling for their mates to return. It is hot even though it’s getting late. Ryeowook pops open a button in an attempt at relieving himself from the heat. It doesn’t help.

A flash of black midnight passes him, almost too quickly, and Ryeowook is startled. The car backpedals and he almost rolls his eyes. The window rolls down and Ryeowook sees a mess of black hair behind the wheel.

“Hello, love,” Yesung says, husky voice rumbling. “Do you want a ride?”

“How kind of you to offer,” Ryeowook murmurs, stepping inside the vehicle. He pecks Yesung on the cheek and sighs into the seat. “You’re the best, I love you.”

“Why don’t you show me just how much you love me when we get home?” Yesung smirks, placing his foot on the accelerator.

Ryeowook shakes his head as if saying of course you’d say something like that, but he doesn’t say no.
