“Married?” I looked at him, who was still down on one knee, ring in hand. “Evan, I love you, but we both know it can’t happen. The Church will only marry a man and a woman.”
“I was thinking you could maybe dress as a woman. We could get you a bonnet and a gown to fool them.”
I looked shocked. “But I’m a man!”
“They don’t have to know that.” Evan winked before taking my hand in his. “So, what do you say? Will you marry me?”
I smiled. “Of course I will, Evan. I love you, after all.”

I pulled the cake out of the oven, setting it down on the counter. After making sure the cake came out okay, I began to frost it with homemade buttercream frosting, a recipe that my mother taught me as a child. Accidently, I got part of my hand covered in frosting.
“Yo, Lusca!” I jumped when I felt Evan’s hand on my shoulder.
“Evan! You’re not supposed to be in here!”
“Because it’s my birthday?” He laughed. “You made a mess.” He took my hand, smiling before licking the frosting off. “Do you think I can have my present early?"
I nodded.
