There are Fantasy leagues that have a buy in and the winner gets the pot with the 2nd, and 3rd place teams are awarded.

One of the guys I was working with in Canada won a trip to Hawaii because he got crowned the winner during that season.

It adds a dimension of actual desire to win the game because there really is something to be won aside from bragging rights.

However, money is money and we don't like to gamble. :D
