I don't get out of the house much (though C is hoping to take me out shopping in Southampton today!) so I don't know what is going on with people, but I don't like what I'm hearing.

B has just read me the report of the reopening of the local post office after having to close temporarily due to threats to and verbal abuse of the staff which has left ( Read more... )

Deliveries are sorted out elsewhere, the counters sell stamps, take in parcels and keep copies of things like driving licence and passport forms. It isn't supposed to close randomly like this unless there is a problem like the place is flooded or there has been a swarm of locusts infesting the place ( ... )

Good gracious! 😡 I know times have been tough this past year and a half, but maybe the Post Master can be given a few days off to sort out his attitude.

I have a feeling he has overstepped this time. When I heard of the alleged harrassment I initially thought there are a few people like that about, but my view has changed somewhat. I've found out there have been complaints about him sent to the local head office but these seem to have been ignored until now.

The post office is a bit of a meeting place where you bump into people and have a small natter while in the queue, etc - if you don't frequent one of the pubs or churches, it keeps you in touch on a light level. It really would be a shame if we lost it over things like this. Like I wrote, all a storm in a teacup, but we Brits do like our tea ;)
