In an age when sexual TMI is becoming a bit too common, it's refreshing to see people who understand the difference in public and private behaviour. Yesterday, I was looking at the entertainment section of the Los Angeles Times while taking a break from work. Normally I don't read the LA Times because the 'news' stories in there are usually just ( Read more... )

To their angst I say meh, it's been happening since the earliest moving pictures (and likely before but the who "star" thing wasn't a cultural phenomenon before that). Are they forgetting Rock Hudson? Oh, that's right, he was closeted. Not to mention all the other male heartthrob stars who were queerer than a three dollar bill but didn't make it public (morning brain not helping me with more names but I know there's plenty in Hollowywood history). It doesn't seem to matter as much if people don't *know for sure*

To quote Pierre Elliot Trudeau: The nation has no business in the bedrooms of its citizens
(he caused the removal of a whole wack of weird laws from Canada)

To broaden the quote: that goes for everyone else too. Unless it's in your own bedroom, it shouldn't matter to anyone else as long as it involves consenting adults. (consent being key: one must be capable of giving it and understanding what it means, before one can be qualified as "consenting"). Nothing else matters, as far as I care about it.

Neil Patrick Harris has been with the same man for years. He plays a womanizer on some show on TV. He gets asked how he does it. "It's called acting" he says.

I've often said liberals are normally homophobic and racist but cover it up with smarmy "political correctness". It doesn't realize that hello, being gay is no big deal now. We aren't in the early 20th century anymore. It shouldn't attract any more attention than a man being married to a woman. Being gay is not alternative, it's just a different kind of mainstream.

Now if you're a gay vegan animal rights collective member, THAT is an alternative lifestyle.
