I did three loads of laundry yesterday, which took care of almost everything I own, save the bedclothes, some of which will be disposed of anyway. Kittens are cute, I guess, but this one has to go. I am almost all out of good will. The fleas are gross. The SPCA hasn't called me back, but maybe they'll do so today, which will be really convenient

Just drop the fucking cat off at the SPCA. You don't have to make an appointment. You don't even have to give your name. You can walk in there and say, i found this cat in my neighborhood and it's not looking healthy, so i need you to take it.
Just do it; stop torturing yourself thinking you have to be nice to that bitch.
