wow, okay so i have now FINALLY gotten around to watching Doctor Who season 2 and i hated the first three episodes and liked "Girl in the Fireplace" quite a bit until he magically found his way back through time which i thought was retarded. he should have been stuck there and had to live all 3000 years and find his way back to his Tardis the slow ( Read more... )

After living with a few episodes, I think I've decided I do prefer Season One Dr. I don't have the overacting hate for Tennant that I've seen several people have, in fact, I think he's a freak and a little charming for it, but the more tortured suffer in silence type appeals to me more. That said, I really love Dr. Who, pretty much regardless of the actor. So far. I'm a little wary of the impending companion change and all. Whenever that happens.

i know, isn't it stupid? can we say overcompensating, much?

and i think i liked ep 4 because there were moments in which his enthusiasm adn freakishness *fit* the scene and the character and weren't just him *trying* to be enthusiastic and freakish. there were moments in ep 5 where it worked, too, but in general, it's not so much the overacting so much as it's the not acting in a way that fits. y'know? especially in episode 3, i started just imagining Eccleston saying those same lines that same way and it would have *worked* but it didn't work with Tennant doing it. it was off somehow, like they're still writing for Eccleston but shoving Tennant into the role. it seemed like they started to fix that in "Girl in the Fireplace," tho, so i have hope.

That's it! You're so smart. That's absolutely the problem, it's not really Tennant, it's that the role was still the same one, and that he's really a type, and the writers need to figure out how the new Doctor is. S-M-R-T smart.

I'm going to ask for addresses for Christmas cards shortly. Obviously I have yours. (:

Wait until you get to the episode with the tile blowjob joke. I believe I stopped watching that crap after that, even though the Cthulu alien face episode was okay.

my copies don't have titles. the only reason i knew the Fireplace title was because everyone and their mother freaked out over that episode...and it was...dur...about a girl in a fireplace.

so the blowjob joke will be lost on me...as those jokes usually are :O)

Oh believe me, you'll know the episode when you see it. And by see it I mean have it destroy a bunch of your brain cells.

The planet-by-a-black-hole episode was good just for the sets/production value they really dropped on it, but the story itself really sucked. A lot of Doctor Who has great premises but horrible story execution (Girl in the Fireplace for example) and usually wind up falling flat on their faces and make you angry because the story could have been a lot better if they had tried.

Then again that's only like 10% of the episodes, most of them are just utter crap.
