a kind of painful progress

had an good long weekend...honored the memory of those who died to protect our economy by buying things, namely makeup for me and shoes for Kermit. we didn't actually spend that much money. we're bad Americans.

haplo184, kermix & i all went to Golf N' Stuff on Saturday, half as a goodbye to Dallas and half becuase we had been planning to for ages. xantus was ( Read more... )

that one looks good.... do you do it every day? do you need any special tools? i have a yoga mat and some blocks, but that's it.

i think you look fine :) you've at least got shape, which i am begining to lack. it's nto so much the weight for me as the way it's distributed and my increasingly terrible posture. i notice that when i actually stand up straight, i don't look completely terrible anymore and i figure if i do a bunch of stuff that involves streching and elongating, then i can get myself to the place where i won't be so ashamed to be seen riding my bike or, god forbid, going to the gym :)

Haha, here's the thing: I got that, like, four years ago and I *did* do it every day for a while, but like with most work-out-y things, I quit :/
I think it's a brilliant way to work out, though, and it sounds exactly like what you'd want.

I've started walking every day. Soon I'm gonna add the odd pilates and stuff too... Once I get out of this damn blue rut, that is.

Good luck!

i totally hear ya on the blue rut. i'm home most days, not yet working a real schedule, just generally feeling like the house is full of crap and i don't want to do anything about it :(

bleh.

i walk to the post office, daily! heh...that's, like...a whole 6 blocks! ahh, i do more than that, but it's not enough. today, when i do my post office run, i'll stop by the used dvd store and see what i can find :)

Pilates for Dummies is very good. The basic setting is really detailed and easy to pick up. It also comes with the intermediate level so you can move up without having to shell out more monies. The instructor is sort of blonde, but she's not annoying or anything. I think they have a Yoga for dummies as well, but I don't have that.

yay! i'm definitely a dummy when it comes to this stuff. do you need any special tools to do that video? i have a yoga mat and a couple blocks, but that's it.

All you need is a mat. That's one of the reasons I picked 'Dummies' up. I've had it for a little over a month and I'm not sick or bored by it. It's really good, I hope you like it.

I used Gaiam's Yoga for Weightloss, and lost 70lbs. (including eating right and lots of walking/jogging)

thankye kindly. i figured you might have some good suggestions :) i'm honestly not as concerened about the weight right now as i am the horrifically bad posture i've developed. this seems like the way to go. i've been doing the walking thing, but i'm alone so much of my day and walking solo isn't really very fun for me. i've been remiss. at least actually working out is something i prefer to do when alone.

i almost miss my old deli job just for the constant motion of it :) i know i ate like crap, but i was never in better shape...

are you still teaching Yoga, then? in addition to your newfound rock star life? i'm so bummed we don't live closer or Kermit and i would totally come to see you in your helmet :) Quisthammer sounds like a hell of a good time.

It's good because it has different levels to improve flexibility, and strength, not just weight.

It also has a full workout, at the end.

Also... Beginning Yoga for Dummies.

Mind meld yet again. I have been trying to find a decent pilates recommendation too. I did yoga before I got all broken, and while it worked, the DVD I have is kind of lacking. Plus when I had to do physical therapy, it was recommended that I do pilates over yoga for a while, as the bending is no good for the lower back if you have issues. Annnyhoo. Ditto with the weight loss and somehow finding the will to be more active. And stndyupstraighter.

dude, totally. i was thinking of Netflixing some stuff and then making myself a copy, but that just takes so long to get and send back and OMG the hassle.

i have one set of Yoga dvds that i have not tried yet, so i'll give those a whirl and see what i can find later in the week. the used dvd place had nothin'...unless i wanted Carmen Electra's striptease workout, which, the SHOCK, i did not.

we'll get back on our game again. somehow. hopefully pilates will help...it's so hard to get motivated and actually have the patience to do it daily. bleh.

heh, family is so weird, i tell ya. i mean, i've gotten fat and i hope people don't say anything, but why on earth would they? it's just so silly to make such a big deal out of it announcing OMG I'M FAT SAY NOTHING. *shakes head* she's probably not half as fat as she thinks she is anyway :) we girls have shamefully bad judgement when it comes to seeing ourselves how we really are.

i have been using Yoga Step-By-Step for the past 3 or 4 days. it seems good - the chick goes fairly slow and it has three levels in 3 seperate dvds so i'm just doing the begining one. i've been doing the practice session where they teach you the poses, learning one a day and going over it several times. it's nice. the music is relaxing, the chick's voice is not annoying and she shows how to do modified poses if you can't quite master the standard position. plus, i got it from Netflix so it was kinda free :) plus, very stress-relieving!
