Every Four Years . . .

May 13, 2008 19:13

To quote my husband, "Every four years everyone thinks they're an armchair expert on politics. I signed up to get shot at for a few years for this country and I don't like any one of the candidates because they're all variations on a theme, and that theme is essentially, 'we're in power, we're going to stay in power, we're going to tax hard working ( Read more... )

the problem is that you can't expand the amount of healthcare assistance to a wider definition of who needs it without simultaneously having some of that come out of your pocket. imho the healthcare system as it stands is horrifying and I am willing to give whatever I can to help. which isn't much since I am not a high earner.

there are thousands of people running for president so it seems impossible that one might not be worthwhile even if they have gotten 0 press.

True, this is a huge dilemma and I don't think anyone has the power to fix it on any side of the fence.

In my younger years I used to vote apocalypse...that is to say...I voted for whoever I thought was most likely to transform this country into some Mad Max-ish wasteland.

Now a'days I still hold to a similar philosophy, but from the other side of the fence. The downfall of society is inevitable. A capitalist system requires constant expansion, and since the world has finite resources this system cannot perpetuate itself indefinitely. Whatever the government does will only postpone the fall. Thus, I have become largely apolitical, because I feel as though our very system of government is at fault. This is not to say that I don't vote...I do...I just prefer to remain out of most political discussions.

In the mean time, the best this one can do, is to make merry with the madness. The choice I make in the voting booth is not of who I would like to see in power, but which reality I prefer.

A vote for John McCain is a vote for Skynet. if you vote for Obama, you will be saving John Conner.

I don't think I trust either. A vote for the lesser evil is still a vote for the evil.

Although, as a wanna-be super-villain, I kind of like the idea of voting for the ultimate evil.

Generally speaking, the president doesn't have a very strong affect on gun control. The city council and the state legislature are the people that have an effect on that, and in Texas, it's not really likely.

That said, one of the candidates had a hand in an offensive to force an entire political faction to surrender weapons. This offensive killed a lot of people, and the faction didn't disarm. That faction was the Sadrists, that candidate was John McCain. So, if your worry is that someone is going to send out government spooks to search a city and take away your weapons, I'd suggest you vote for Obama, who has never had a hand in doing that very thing. After all, our purpose du jour for being in Iraq is to give the Iraqis the rights we hold so dear. The evidence is pretty clear that, as far as the right is concerned, those rights don't include the right to bear arms.

Interesting point, but I'm not so convinced.

But then I feel that I lose the right to bitch long and loud when the new Pres screws something up.

I'm just gonna reply to one part. Married agin? Nope. This is still the first and only. June 13th is our anniversary and it'll be one ear in a few more days. Crazy, huh? I've lost a child and fund out that I can't carry to term in that time. Uhhhhh, there's a lot more, but more than I probabl want to put in a simple comment.

I got jaded with Livejournal and switched to Blogsome. Yoou want to know what you've been missing? Check out lostintranslation.blogsme.com. Besides, I love CMSs. If you add him I'll tell him who you are, so . . . it's not really that big a deal on the "friends-only" thing. But he IS a total hottie! ^_^
