Ok, I admit that I love video games, but I agree about the historical accuracy thing. Actually, it's more annoying because having a well researched game would actually probably make it more fun (at least for me). Also, I really would like it if they wouldn't focus so much energy on WWII games. I mean, I know everybody likes shooting Nazis, but there are so many interesting eras to explore that it seems like a waste. Besides, think of all the interesting stories/moral ambiguities that would come from, say, a American Civil War game! Or how about the Opium wars? 100 years war? American Revolution? (but only if they are actually accurate about showing both sides. I will be annoyed if "redcoat" is just another term for "Nazi")
Of course, unlike a lot of gamers I play mainly for the story, so maybe I am missing the point. ;-) This is why I usually play fantasy type-games, so the historical inaccuracy doesn't annoy me.
Aw dude, a game about the Opium Wars would be EPIC. I would play that. xD I mostly play for the story as well. The only proper video game I've ever really gotten into was Half-Life and I like it because it's immersive...and creepy as hell. Even so, it's no substitute for real life. |:
I know, right! The Opium Wars would make a really interesting story no matter which side you fight for. (Maybe I just love Chinese history though) Now that I think of it, have you ever seen a WWII video game that focuses on Japan and China rather than Germany and the US? It would be both compelling and utterly heartbreaking, I would think- at least if done right.
I am personally a big fan of stuff like Final Fantasy and the Zelda games, though because I have only really been a serious gamer for a few years, I feel like I probably approach them differently than most. I played FFVII for the first time this past year, and I think that as an adult I could really enjoy it a lot more, and as someone not a part of the gamer community I could feel free to make my own interpretations without having everybody else tell me what to think. It's rather nice, actually. Of course, I also enjoy Pokemon... I am immature like that, what can I say. ;-)
What system is Half Life for? I might check it out this summer if I have the right console for it. :-
