it is a test. you think colleges actually read the stuff you send it? no. it is a competition to see who can finish the 14 lbs of paperwork within the arbitrary deadlines, designed for your inconvenience, mail it all in without crashing their email server or going broke from postage costs, and visit the campus, flying three hours to have a 35-minute interview and comment on the campus landscaping. If you can do all that without being declared mentally unstable at the finish line, you're in.

I totally agree with Evelyn. It seems like they're trying to weed out the weak students. It really pissed me off when I was applying... All this stupid, pointless stuff, and you have to do it. ARGH. It makes me mad just thinking about college apps.
