Redlands katschmiddy March 28 2006, 15:54:50 UTC
Here's Some More Info on REDLANDS:"About Redland's location: it is in the middle of everything, and in the middle of nowhere. It is about an hour's drive away to LA, but people will occasionally go there. We're not too far from some good skiing. The beach is a little over an hour away, but people will often go for a nice day trip. Most everything in the city of Redlands will be closed by 9 or 10, but there is always lots of activity on campus. Our RA's put on lots of programs, there are more clubs than I care to mention, and weekends always bring lots of parties. I should warn you that alcohol is a problem on campus, and there will be students drinking and getting drunk. However, I do not drink, and do not feel pressured to drink by other students. Bottom line: there are plenty of options for fighting off boredom ( ... )

Some negative comments on REDLANDS were:

"Too many rich kids being babysat and hand-holding by the professors."

"Most people are apathetic towards schoolwork."

"Surrounding area is a ghetto and unsafe, though campus is safe."

"The administration is unfair and plays favorites, you must kiss up to professors."

"Too small-town, too few people."

About 60% of students would return to Redlands, while 40% would not.

hmm.... I've decided that so far, thanks to your help and because my own thoughts, Univeristy of Redlands, St. Louis University, and University of SF are all out of the running.

However, Gonzaga University, University of the South, Ohio Wesleyan, and University of Denver are all still in.

Good choices. I agree with you, I don't think you'd really like SF or Redlands. And it would kind of suck to have to see Kevin all the time-just kidding, I know you love your brother. ^_~

I'd have to say that in my opinion these of your top choices so far are really strong, good schools:

Ohio Wesleyan
University of Denver
University of the South

And you're still waiting to hear from a couple of schools, right? Or not?

Okay, here's my opinion (for whatever it's worth!) on the three schools above.

Ohio Wesleyan
Ohio Wesleyan is not a party school, which is good! The liberal atmosphere you will probably like; however, I think in general the town and Ohio may not be very exciting. It will be a close-knit, small, highly academic environment. I know this will be a good match for you in academic quality, and you can make strong friends with others because they will work as hard as you. I worry mostly about it being all work and no play.

University of DenverI see this as a good match for you. Kevin says it is a party school, but I've read so much saying that recently the administration has cracked down and really stressed academics. I think you could easily find friendly, fun, vibrant people to hang out with here who will understand you very well, and of the three schools, this school will have the most exciting things to do in the area, which I hear can be a lot like Austin in its attitude. It may be more "fun" than the other two schools, but you are ( ... )

Oops, I accidentally posted when I wasn't done. Okay

It is accadmecially very good, though the campus is pretty isolated from a fun city environment, like Ohio Wesleyan. People are friendly and there are a lot of opportunities to do outdoorsy things. The students and professors really get to know each other because there is not a lot to do off campus. That could be a plus or a minus.

Mallory, I like all three schools more or less equally, for different reasons. I could definitely picture you happy at any one of them, and the choice is really just up to you and what you want.
