I live in Richmond.

We got some wind and rain.

Anyone who makes it out to be more than that needs to actually pay attention to real weather.

Wind and rain. Didn't even wake my dogs.

Please STFU about OMG there's water outside.

Sincerely, a non hysterical member of fandom.

Well, there are a lot of trees down and a lot of people without power. I'd call it slightly more than "some" wind and rain. I don't think talking about it makes people hysterical.

talking about it hysterically makes the hysterical people seem hysterical.

yeah, power was out all day yesterday on 360, and spots in the city... and life continued without the need to make it a national event.

sorry if the rain and wind overwhelmed some people.

I don't think anybody is making Richmond a national event, however for local people the fact that many, many, many people still don't have power is a pretty big deal to them personally. And there are some far more serious effects of Irene in Vermont and elsewhere--I'm sure that houses being flooded is overwhelming for the people who live in them.

I live in Philly, and it was a big nothing. Not to knock anyone who did get flooded out, but I too was surprised at the level of crazy.

i grew up in philly, maybe that's why i'm not phased. I've seen real weather. So have people in Vermont but i'm not speaking for them.

Yeah, my dad was stuck in an airport in FL during the storm, then he flew home to philly, no phone calls so i guess he wasn't particularly shaken by the fact that it rained near his door.

while any loss of property is regrettable and loss of life is a tragedy, from what I saw on the TV from Times Square on Saturday night, it just looked like an Irish Summer & Autumn & Spring, not to make light of it or to cheapen anybody's suffering. Getting everybody evacuated was a case of erring on the side of caution, arguably if people had not evacuated the death toll would be significantly higher in my opinion. Amazing the damage a falling tree can do. I've never experienced a full hurricane, but I have experienced 100 mph winds. Hope that people manage to get back to their normal routine with as little hoopla as possible.

I understand evacuation and loss of property can be harrowing, the key is... that was NY, this is Richmond, people are still freaking out because a few street signs are out and the Wal-Mart is closed.

Richmond was never in danger from this hurricane and weathered it well, I'm ready for my town to get the fuck over it.
