The answer to this might be a bit obvious, but just to be sure -- ordinarily, would a psychic (more specifically, a telepath) be able to tell whether someone's a vampire/shifter/faerie upon first contact? Or would the psychic just have a vague impression of the other person being a little "different"?

Thanks ♥

A telepath or an empath would have a greater chance of knowing than any of the other psychics, but it would depend upon your psychic's strength and upon the other character's efforts to hide what they are.

Certainly a faerie's mind would be very different because they've never been human, a vampire's mind tends to be different particularly the older they are, and a shifter's mind may even give an impression of "twinning" because of their beast's input.

Great question. I'll add that to the entries.

On your game overview you mentioned allowing non-standard characters before the game starts. What kind of characters does this cover? Would creature types not listed in the game information be allowed?

Prior to the game opening, I'm willing to accept just about anything that makes sense characterization-wise and which doesn't unbalance the power structure. So, if you wanted to app a person of mixed human/demon parentage or a ghost or wereshark, I'd be quite happy to read apps for any of those or for anything else you'd like to give a shot. The only limits are your imagination and ability to put them in an appable format.

I hope that makes sense. I'm at Dragon Con, have been drinking all weekend and just woke up.

Uh this is most likely a 'durrrrr' question but.

If I say, want to app someone who just recently got (the hang of?) his/her shape-shifting powers and isn't part of a pack yet since the character hasn't really understood what happened to him and all that jazz, would that be acceptable? Like say, character X just lived through his first full moon. Or something like that.

Thanks is advance. |D

Certainly! You're welcome to app a character who is as experienced or inexperienced as you'd like, as well as a character who has no immediate pack/pard/pride/etc. ties. If you'd like, we can also discuss some of the human establishment's options for newly turned shifters for conflict and/or character development purposes.

Not a durrr question at all. I'll add it to this post when I get home (I'm on a plane atm.) ^^

Here's a question about magic, from someone completely unfamiliar with Dresden and Blake canons. Is it possible/allowable to have a psychic that was raised as/became a magic wielder, like a wiccan, and if not what's the ruling on wiccan-based magic in general?

Wiccan-based magic is A-OK. It's still going to require being born with a personal wellspring of magical energy, but Wiccan ritual can be used to channel the energy. The game mechanic here precludes multiclassing overall (at least until application voting goes to community voting rather than moderator-only ruling.)

As such you could have a psychic whose religion was Wicca, but he or she would be unable to use Wiccan magic. Or you could have a practitioner of Wiccan-based magic who could use spells to replicate certain psychic abilities, but he or she would not be a psychic. What you are currently unable to have is a psychic who also has a personal wellspring of magic that would allow practicing Wiccan-based magic.

This is a really good question and I'm going to apply it when I update the section on magic, because it needs more work. Don't hesitate to hit me with follow up questions if this didn't answer your question enough, I just woke up and may not be wholly coherent.

Your answer makes perfect sense. I decided to tweak the character another way, but this is good for my character's knowledge base anyway.

Hi there! I just have a few questions concerning the Sidhe and the changelings. Hopefully your questions will help me decide which I should make my character, and be useful for future reference too :x

First of all, I'd like to make my character a banshee born from two Sidhe parents. It's mentioned that pureblood Sidhes would prefer to stay in Nevernever, but would go to San Francisco for specific reasons. Is it possible to have my character have a residence in Nevernever, while still going to the 'real world' often for school (and just have an apartment in San Francisco for emergencies and the like)? Or would school and other 'human' activities be something only a changeling would really do?

How affected would a pureblood Sidhe child be (by iron, by human philosophies, etc) if she had grown up in the human world?

Also, on the subject of banshees...I've heard from a friend that they tend to be more ghostly. Is this true?

Thanks in advance!

The thing with Sidhe and fairies in general is that cold iron is like acid or holy water, and there's a lot of it in the human world. So your banshee could be in the human world, but she'd be pretty darned uncomfortable most of the time. Her power would also be greatly circumscribed by the proximity of all that iron (and steel does count although it would cause a lesser amount of damage because the iron is adulterated with other metals). It has nothing to do with where she grew up and everything to do with her physical nature ( ... )

Pretend I remembered to log out of the NPC account for that answer. XD

That helps a lot, thank you! I might end up having her be a changeling after all.

/has a lot of revamping to do!
