I don't think I've told you before how much I appreciate your reviews. They're thoughtful, detailed, helpful and fun to read even if I have no intention of purchasing the book ion question, and I always love seeing them pop up on my friendslist.
Of this batch, I've read "On the Edge" and didn't care for it at all. I liked the first books of Ilona Andrews other series, but then she fell prey to something she also does here, regarding the love interest, and it really really put me off. (Don't want to go into detail here because of spoiler danger!) I also didn't care for the heroine much, because she seemed to have very little actual character. However, I did enjoy the world-building, which was some compensation, at least!
I started to read Anansi Boys long ago, and must try again soon! I keep hearing it's an excellent read, but for some reason I got bored with the beginning of it, way back when. That doesn't necessarily mean I won't enjoy the rest of the book, however, once I manage to get into it.
Thank you for your very kind words! Always glad to hear that people enjoy the reviews. :)
I thought the hero in On the Edge would put me off too, until toward the end of the book and we learn why he was acting the way he did. Then I didn't quite mind. However, Andrews does love those Alpha males, and it's always a fine line to walk. :)
Unfortunately, by that time in the book it was way too late for me, not only - but also - because it was also such a late revelation for the heroine... plus, I also found him rather short on character, other than the alphaness, and thus irretrievably bland.
I can enjoy Alpha males, as long as they're not obnoxious about it. But yes, it is a fine line, and most authors do cross into obnoxious territory. *g*
