YOU pick a scene from one of my fics that you want to see from another character's perspective. I write it! (example: that scene in still standing where cook manhandles archie in the toilet from archie's/jcas'/syesha's pov.)

uh. somehow this isn't what i had in mind when i started working on it. ack. i'm sorry!

there are some things a father knows about his children. things like their friends, what they want to do after high school, and whether they're engaging in underage sex. granted, the things a father needs to know about a son with superpowers is a little different: he needs to know whether the cape fits, if there's ever any media at a crime scene, if the side effects of using those powers is too much to handle.

but in none of those circumstances is how a child sounds after they witness a gunshot - multiple gunshots - one of those things.

jeff's fingers are white-knuckled where they're curled around the table edge, and his other hand is pressed to his earpiece. a woman in screaming in the distance. "david," he says, urgently. "david."

there's another second of static-filled silence, and then david says, dully, "i'm okay."

"david--"

"dad." david's voice crackles over the line. "i don't - i tried to make him stop
