I stand by my headcanon that it was all a trick to get the Avengers to stop fighting each other and start working together. Phil will pop up later I SWEAR TO GOD HE'D BETTER. This is comics, no one ever dies.

Biggest surprise was Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. I have never had Bruce feels before but OMG I DO NOW. He might even have been my favorite. Also I ship Tony/Bruce so hard right now, GIVE ME FIC
Cap in the future >>> Cap in the past. "I understood that reference!" CAP = CAS, Y/Y? I loved his scenes with Tony and I loved how they eventually started working together so seamlessly in traditional comics fashion.
THOR AND LOKI: SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK
PEPPER PEPPER PEPPER right back to shipping Tony/Pepper as hard as ever.
Also I have SO MANY BLACK WIDOW AND HAWKEYE FEELS. They are platonic BFFs and just devoted to each other in this weird intense way and asldkafskdj MORE PLEASE

All in all I was very impressed at how they managed all the heroes -- I didn't think anybody got left out or anybody dominated, not even Tony (which could have easily happened with a lesser director). The structure was really interesting, end-loading all the big action setpieces, but while I usually get bored in action scenes there was enough emotional story to them that it really worked for me.
And the movie was much funnier than I expected -- bursting out laughing in the middle of an action scene is an unexpected delight. OMG HULK SMASHING LOKI I WILL NEVER STOP LAUGHING. AND HAWKEYE'S EXPLODING ARROW LOLOLOL
So yeah, LOVED IT and want to see it again.
I am also very interested in how the fic will go. I feel like there wasn't a lot of room in the movie for fic, because it takes place over such a compressed time and we see most of the interactions between the Avengers themselves.
So my prediction: some movie-based Tony/Bruce will appear (and Coulson fix-it fic, and Phil/Clint angst, and such variations), but a lot more fic will continue in the kind of generic movie-verse that everyone's been writing for the last year, where they all live in Stark Tower and play Xbox together and have adventures. Let's see if I'm right!
