Why do I seem to always watch the most horrifying movies by myself?

Just finished watching Requiem for a Dream. Finally got a chance to watch it because I'm not working tomorrow and my family is out of town...I knew it was not a family movie. However, I really had no idea it was going to be that terrifying and upsetting. I mean it was amazing and incredibly well done but
