Leto II lasts a solid 3500 years... And if I say what I was just about to say, then I'd ruin the book for you. Read on!

Life is what we make it but vampires are already dead, one dies in becoming a vampire. ^_^
I would think that some vampires could stand to "live" for thousands of years because they essentially are at their last chance to exist (which they wouldn't realize until after quite a long time). Vampirism is a curse not because one cannot enter sunlight or must exist in solidtude but because it is physical immortality: being endlessly confined to one physical body and becoming eternally removed from the cycle of life. When a vampire is destroyed their essence does not return to the cycle, it just ends and they are basically done.
