I talked to Alex again today (my favorite Christian friend). We talked about a lot of good stuff, like the absence of god, god's desire to be in our lives, our own close-minded refusal to accept the possibility of god. Even while writting this I can picture you rolling your eyes, and thinking "that's silly." I would have said that too, but I'm ( Read more... )

I think people too often assume God is some big outside force that's going to blow the cloud-cover into your room and hug you with big cumulonimbus arms. I don't think it's like that. If God is a part of us, then He's a part of us. For me, he's the spirituality I feel walking in some place of extreme grandeur. He's the recipient of the thankfulness I feel when things are finally going well or I have the strength to do what I consider right. He's the sunshine in the morning that drenches my pillow and makes me smile. He's the opportunity of being alive and finding some peace and happiness in that.

For me, God is spirituality, and that doesn't need to have anything to do with goatees or rope sandals.

Why not? They're both infinite, somewhatedly unknown, and important to the lives of people.

Everyone's different... we just may all be calling the same feelings other stuff and justifying it in different ways.

The signifier doesn't mean much in the end as long as you have the feeling and the meaning.

That's exactly the kind of skepticism and close-mindedness that I was referring to.
