Day 0 - what did I learn today?

Apr 30, 2010 21:16

This is going to be challenging but I am hoping that this is a skill that I can improve. I am trying to decide other things I want to practice and work on as well - so far meditation is on the list. Time to make a plan - even a little one.

So the things today are things I may have already known but they seem like I didn't put them in words before. It is going to be rare that I learn anything profound but things would be weird if I had profound thoughts all the time. :)

1) Empathy is not the same thing as connection. I can feel aligned to a person through some deep empathy but that is not a basis for a friendship. Need to remember this for the next time I fall in "empathy" for someone.

2) Shyness and introversion are not the same thing. Shyness is a defensive mechanism for a fear of criticism or judgment.

3) Sometimes we fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to other people as a way of getting validation. It doesn't work. Feedback for improvement is a very different thing.

Activity follows attention. I really should give some more attention to the binary/continua/emergent thing I have been trying to figure out for months now.
