A staffer in Sephora asked, in a friendly voice, if they could help me find anything ( Read more... )

The supply chain is broken all over. I have tried to order several Christmas things online only to be hit with the "sorry out of stock and we don't know when we'll have more" announcement. I envision Christmas gift bags full of IOUs.

But yay for people filling up book shops!

Supply chain issues aside, I do wonder how big a hit the pandemic has had on the cosmetics industry--no need for as much makeup when you have to wear a mask! Eye makeup is probably booming a bit more, though.

I do know people who refused to concede and still went out in full rig - they had a lot to say about primers and fixing sprays! There's been a definite shift to an emphasis on skincare, particularly as folks went running to a dermatologist with problems caused by wearing a mask for hours on end. (And when an article featuring 10 dermatologists had 6 of them saying that they personally used one particular cleanser, as it didn't hurt after a day in PPE, I couldn't find it in the drugstore for a couple of months!)

The tinted moisturizer I like has run out, and I'm not going to bother replacing it until next summer, partly because I can't get my mitts on it. *g* But given Washington's mandates, I expect I'll be wearing a mask around people for a while yet; my daily moisturizer has SPF 30 in it, the lip tint has SPF 15, anything beyond that will just get smeared, so what's the point?

I have told people "You're getting tea - maybe tea and a book - and a pretty card", and mostly receiving responses of "Oh thank you I have spent the last 20 months inside my house, it is full of craaaaaaaaaaaap, I do not need more!"

Next week is my quarterly haircut (what was I thinking?), and I might at least peek at the inside of the B&N, to see what they have left.

There were definite signs of "We have been redoing the displays to hide the fact that we are not in a position to restock".

That's interesting. I'm not sure I would have noticed that. Glad you found what you needed!

This particular product line normally has a whole section of wall space dedicated to it; when I came into the store it took me a minute to spot it, as it had been reduced to three shelves - and one of those was nearly empty. We're talking "three tubes of the tinted lip balm, I just bought one, that's all that's on this shelf". One of them is the bright red, so it was added to the Christmas display at the counter; the staffer told me that she would pop off the shelf signage that clips in front, move up the remaining facial products, and fill in below with makeup applicators and such.
