. . . but sometimes it's really easy to justify

A friend on a forum discussing "green living" posted this yesterday:

'Tis the season to be silly, I gather. You know the one. Black Friday sales - that's where there's getting rid of the tat that hasn't sold. Then there are the "offers" of food and decorations for Christmas following. Then there's the possibility of Boxing Day sales, to get rid of ( Read more... )

If you've been hankering after a new skillet for a while and you see it super marked down (as you have) I say it doesn't matter the reason for the discount and just go for it. It sounds lovely and useful and you won't spill scalding food on yourself.

Whoa...that sounds like quite a tattoo!

It's the same line of Tramontina fully-clad pots that I picked up at Costco a few years ago; their open stock prices have been at "You want what for a saucepan?!?" levels for years, but apparently with the tri-ply they're shifting to a satin finish on the exteriors, and thus the shiny ones must go. *makes the shrugging perplexed arms gesture*

It's extremely elaborate. As You Know, Bob, I have no ink myself but can appreciate it on others, and it's clear that it is a personally meaningful design.

I suppose that satin finish is now in vogue or some silly thing like that. What is wrong with shiny? I love those pots and pans as well!

I have no ink either and sometimes I can appreciate an artistic or meaningful tattoo but I've never been a huge fan of body art.

If you can get your hands on the pots, with the shipping delays! "It's fashionable! - no, you can't buy it, the price of the container's gone from $1500 to $18,000 and there are no trucks to unload it into on this side anyway, but it's soooooooooo chic!"

fufaraw and my Dear Friend H. are, I think, the only friends I have in the state who don't have tattoos. For me it's a combination of "ouch" and "I am easily bored".

the new one has a handle on the other side that can actually be gripped while wearing heavy oven mitts.

I regard this as preventative medicine.

Re tattoo; Do you get to see 'Masterchef; the Professionals'? Tonight as one of the contestants entered the kitchen for the first time Monica Galetti was heard to say "Wow! Scary tattoo!"

When a Samoan thinks your tattoo is scary I think you have achieved your aim. (Especially as S2C used to usually refer to Monica G as 'that scary Samoan lady'.)

"Sweetheart, that skillet is essential equipment to help prevent a visit to Urgent Care." *g* Actually, when I told him how much the price had come down, P. said "Obviously then you should go and click the button".

We do get to see it, though on a delay of a couple of days (much like Bake-Off). Now that I know to expect the comment I will laugh that much harder. S. tells me that body art, including tattoos, is quite common to many of the local tribes, and she receives positive responses when people see them during field work.

That sounds like a very useful feature.

I don't understand why they aren't standard once the pan diameter is over 10 inches; it's not that much more metal and it really does help.
