It's extremely elaborate. As You Know, Bob, I have no ink myself but can appreciate it on others, and it's clear that it is a personally meaningful design.

I have no ink either and sometimes I can appreciate an artistic or meaningful tattoo but I've never been a huge fan of body art.

fufaraw and my Dear Friend H. are, I think, the only friends I have in the state who don't have tattoos. For me it's a combination of "ouch" and "I am easily bored".

I regard this as preventative medicine.
Re tattoo; Do you get to see 'Masterchef; the Professionals'? Tonight as one of the contestants entered the kitchen for the first time Monica Galetti was heard to say "Wow! Scary tattoo!"
When a Samoan thinks your tattoo is scary I think you have achieved your aim. (Especially as S2C used to usually refer to Monica G as 'that scary Samoan lady'.)

We do get to see it, though on a delay of a couple of days (much like Bake-Off). Now that I know to expect the comment I will laugh that much harder. S. tells me that body art, including tattoos, is quite common to many of the local tribes, and she receives positive responses when people see them during field work.
