Home from the dentist

It went well! No cavities or inflammation or any badness at all! The hygienist was lovely and gentle, pausing to ask how I was doing - at one point I did say "How much longer?" and she immediately moved back and pushed the tools away. "Let's take a moment. Are you having any pain at all? I remember that you're dealing with TMJ, and I'm sorry that ( Read more... )

I went to the hospital yesterday for a posh all round dental X ray, which is apparently a thing for my dentist now for those of us over 60.

It was actually a calm, hassle free, trip; space in the car park, sign in and mask up at the front door, and a quiet, almost empty, waiting room in the X ray department, where I was seen within 10 minutes of arrival!

I wonder what your new neighbours make of the gaps in supplies?

Oooooh, I've had one of those! They're quite futuristic feeling, aren't they? "It's scanning my head!" And well done everything moving along so readily!

*laughs, shakes head* I imagine they are dreadfully perplexed! The latest thing is "Why is there not a streetlight near the postboxes?" Because most people pick up their post during the day, and have a small flashlight if they're walking around at night: this isn't officially a "Dark Sky" community, but aside from the exterior stairwells, lighting is confined to LED downlights on the pathways and individual porch lights, which are generally designed to reduce light pollution. There's a city streetlight beside the bus stop and at the roundabout, and that does for most folks.

Your hygienist is a gem!

I've been using a Sonicare for a few years, and wish I'd discovered it decades ago.

I think of how much pain I was in after visits to the dentist in Bellevue, and I wish I'd made the jump to a local provider years earlier - the hygienists there were so rough with me.

Aren't they great? The actual dentist in Bellevue was the one who recommended a Sonicare and Waterpik to P., who had serious periodontal issues (requiring quarterly deep pocket cleanings that our insurance did NOT cover) - after a year of diligent use, he'd healed up completely. We will never willingly be without them: oral care is one area where I am all right with NOT working towards the "greenest" option available!

I really need to book at appointment with my dentist; I canceled an appointment at the beginning of the whole mess and haven't been since (I normally go every 6 months for a cleaning). I'm assiduous about brushing and flossing and don't really have problems, so I'm not anticipating any issues, but that also makes it easy to keep putting it off. I'm glad you have such a kind hygienist. The good ones are worth their weight in gold!

My dentist has been very forthright about making sure all staff members are fully vaccinated and that PPE is correctly worn, and each patient is seen in a separate room with excellent ventilation, so with all of that and my being boosted, I reckon we're about as safe as we can be.

Hmmmm - you know how we were talking about the pandemic shift from makeup to skincare? I wonder if there's evidence of a similar shift to more thorough home care of people's teeth . . . .

The hygienist also sees Dear Friend H., and we have been known to sing her praises to people at the studio. This potentially makes it more difficult for either of us to get in to see her, but everyone deserves to be treated with kindness at the dentist!
