Chapter 32

LibriVox audiorecording of Mansfield Park

Fanny had by no means forgotten Mr. Crawford when she awoke the next morning; but she remembered the purport of her note, and was not less sanguine as to its effect than she had been the night before. If Mr. Crawford would but go away! ( That was what she most earnestly desired... )

Yeah, but I can understand her not wanting to 'tattle' on her cousins. Still, it sucks that she's the only one who can see through Mr. Crawford's charm to see that he has some serious character flaws.

i'm finding the whole mr crawford situation a bit disgusting really. the idea that fanny would be stupid in refusing mr crawford and that she must have feelings for him simply because he has a fourtune and has the humility to love someone of fanny's situation. i'm with fanny all the way on this one. good on her for sticking to her guns, however terrible she feel's about it.

(although it would be a nice break for her not to feel terrible for once)

I agree. I think it's horrible that Crawford and Lord Bertram are, in a way, using emotional blackmail to try and get Fanny to marry Henry. Although, I guess I can kind of see Lord Bertam's POV (I don't agree with it). An unmarried woman without means at this time was doomed to live off of her relatives. At this time, this is Fanny's best way of finally having something of her own. Fanny, though, doesn't want to be financially secure at the price of spending her life with someone she can't respect and everyone finds this incomprehensible since it's the job of every woman to get married as soon as possible.

Stay, stay, Fanny! what are you about?

grr this woman gets more annoying every chapter. she is so awful, please tell me she gets some kind of slap around the face (metaphorically speaking) at the end of all this :)
