Future Lovers by KUNIEDA Saika

I like to read manga, and some just catch your attention straight off the bat. One such is KUNIEDA Saika's "Future Lovers". This manga features a favourite couple of mine: Kento and Akira. It is alternately hilarious, sweet, and tear-jerking, but very satisfying. I often re-read it when I want something with a realistic feel to it, but which has a ( Read more... )

I read future lovers becouse I didn't know the manga and ... I liked it and I can see your point.
I don't know if you know Asou Kai works but if you want to try I think you can find something nice ... start with SORENARI NI SHINKEN NANDESU even if my favorites are SOKO NI SUWARU NA and YACHIN HANBUN NO IBASHO DESU.
If you have already read it you'll have your opinion on 'em.

Oh, I just love ASOU Kai's works! I think one of the reasons I like the works of hers that you mentioned is because although they are 'realistic' to a point (not as fanciful as some, and the action usually takes place in the world as we know it), these also have some element of hopefullness. (Future Lovers has this aspect also). I like to read something that shows us how the characters grow and develop, and how they come to see others in a different light. I enjoy seeing relationships grow and change over time.

I'm happy you like Asou Kai's work couse I love them.
Coherence is what I appreciate most in fiction and life!
Sometimes you read stories where characters act according to the flow of the story and it's something I really don't like becouse you lose the sense of reality and it's impossible to have an interesting psychological traits of the character.
Even in the tyrant I love the slow and hard path Sempai need to do in order to know himself and learn how to relate with Morinaga.
Now that he is aware of what he want I hope that in the epilogue and extra we'll descover a little more about how he want to relate with others (family and friends)... Takanaga Sempai stories are usually very consistent.
If you have more title to share don't be shy ... I'll appreciate!

Oh I really enjoy your LJ. I like how you've chosen a category and then selected pics or scenes. Your journal is fun to browse through. (and I find new things or reminders of old things and then go look them up).

Yep, I thought Kento's grandparents were so hilarious. It is kinda odd that a favourite BL couple would include the grandparents, but that is the case with Future Lovers. The grandparents add so much to the story. The bit that got to me was when his grandmother said that at the end of her life, what she wanted was to be close enough to someone so they could say to each other, "I was happy to have met you". And she is always so calm and composed whilst grandpa is getting noisy and arguing with Akira.

(funny, I also considered something from Fujiyama Hyouta for this contest.)

Hahaha, this one of my favorites too ^^

They make such a cute couple just because they're so difference with each other. I say they're one of those "opposite attract" thing. This is such a lovely review ^^

Thank you! I couldn't decide who to pick and then I realized that I somehow seem to reread this all the time. Yes, I think you're correct - these two are definitely the 'opposites attract' kind of guys. This is what makes it so funny. But they really love each other and that is what makes this manga so very good.

Yeah this is one manga that you won't get bored re-reading again and again, and can't help crying reading it too (but I think, it's just in my case ^^;;)

oh no, I keep a box of tissues handy when I read this one. I always cry when Kento talks about his parents, or when reading about Akira's school days when he was washing his shirt all alone, or near the end when Grandpa bumped his head and thought he was dying and Kento had to handle everything all by himself and collapsed in the alley behind the house because he was afraid everyone was going to leave him. And the very first chapter when Kento ran into the street, we see the truck, and the next scene is Akira, dressed up nicely and carrying the materials to pray at the grave. I always cry there, haha. But this is what makes this mangaka so good - she is able to draw these emotions out of us.
