What part of "Turning Vehicles Yield to Pedestrians" do you not understand?

During my six block walk to school today, I was almost hit three times. These all happened when I had the walk sign. Two of those times were at one intersection that has a specific sign saying that phrase in the title. I started to cross when one car almost hit me and I stopped and let him by. So assuming the next car had seen me and noticed

I hate lights that have the 'walk' sign at the same time as the green light - people think, "Ooh, green means go."
