Tonight I went to see the first two episodes of Top of the Lake at the cinema, followed by a Q & A with the creators/writers Jane Campion and Gerard Lee. Top of the Lake is a miniseries set in New Zealand about a twelve year old pregnant girl who goes missing, and what I saw was fantastic. It looked absolutely stunning on the big screen, too.

Whoa! They were filming that when I was there last year visiting LOTR sites. I'll have to look it up.

Oh, cool. Did you see anything interesting?

Jane Campion said that they shot it in eighteen weeks, which sounds like a lot until you consider it's six hours long. She said it was like making a feature film every four and a half weeks, over and over.

Based on the first two episodes, it's definitely worth checking out.

I was reading an article on SMH today that mentioned Top of the Lake! I am not sure if I will want to check it out until it is complete though?

The whole thing is six hours long, so you could definitely wait and watch it all on a relaxing Sunday afternoon.

I just hope the rest is as good as the opening two episodes, which were excellent.
