In which I watch things.

Much Ado About Nothing

I loved this. It has its flaws, of course, some of which are inherent to the original play and some of which are introduced, but I enjoyed the humanity and the sweetness it brought to what is, I suspect, my favourite Shakespeare. I had several conversations with people in the days prior that went ( Read more... )

re: Much Ado
I'm not that familiar with the play (I haven't read it, haven't seen it performed, and I saw the Branagh movie once maybe 15 years ago) and was so confused by Don Juan showing up in zip-ties and then just roaming around freely and scheming through the rest of the movie. I assumed it was something I missed, but I guess not! (and I also really enjoyed the movie!)

Yes, such a weird choice.

One of the people I saw the film with thought this suggested some kind of Mafia angle. I didn't get that at all, but it is hard to work out why they did it that way.

To be fair, Don John is not a particularly well-written villain. He's evil because, well, he's evil. He's the bastard son, but there's a line early on about how he's back in his brother's grace, so it's not clear why he decides to screw things up for Claudio. (Perhaps jealousy because Claudio is close with his brother?) And then he gets no comeuppance because he just disappears from the play at the half-way point. Not the best job there, Shakespeare!

21 September, going to International Make up Trade Show. Tickets are listed as $45 for the day, but are are actually only $40 when you go to pay.

We're going to lunch at Hurricanes afterwards, around 12.30 or 1pm, depending on how quickly we get through the show.

I think I sent you the link before, but just checking in case you're interested in joining Eri and Lin and I.

Hello! You did send me the link earlier, and I apologise -- I kept meaning to respond and never did.

I'd love to come to the show, though I may have to skip lunch afterwards, depending how long we're there.

Should I just go ahead and buy a ticket?

Yes, we are only going on Saturday. Usually because by Sunday I've already BOUGHT ALL THE THINGS!

I'm there at opening, too. If you're late, I won't wait, you'll have to catch up inside. Erilyn is coming, too.
