OK, all these book things being tossed around reminds me of The New Victorians, and I believe I have a copy of that, if you want to read it. But that's not telling you about this particular older woman you're trying to grok. (It might help a bit, though, who knows?)

Oh that one sounds interesting too! I would definitely be interested in reading it. I'm not necessarily focused just on this one lady, she was simply the most obvious of that type of person/mentality I found during initial research; I'm willing to cast my net wider.

I have a few thoughts about this. I love trying to figure out why people think the way they do - or at least coming up with plausible explanations for how a person could believe a particular thing (however bad it seems to me) and yet actually have a "good" intent ( ... )

And if men are drafted, why *shouldn't* women be, again?

If anything, that might undercut various nasty aspects of our current military culture, not to mention making *use* of the draft much less politically acceptable.

Also: "equal rights" doesn't mean "pretend there's no difference". It *does* mean "equal protection under the law", and currently, women get noticeably less protection in several areas. Given you're female, I doubt you need me to tell you which....
