This may sound rude except that I'm actually just curious, but... what would they have done that makes you think they actually ran a credit check?

They took my social, and had it in their possession for a good 2 hours while I was "filling out the paperwork." They might have put it in thinking I'd fill out the paperwork.

Ahhh, okay. I didn't know they took your social. When you just said license and rebate I was thinking... "how do they run a credit check without your social?" :)

Yeah, "TR" lifted the number from the credit check form I had started to fill out, saying, "We'll get this going." However, I had yet to finish the form or sign off on it, and as I said, I have the half-completed form in my possession.
