Those who Wander (The company arrives, and Bilbo has his life flash before him) ------
The only threat, Bilbo thinks, that trolls and orcs cause dragons is indigestion. How delightful it would have been to just incinerate them all - but they all got out of that spot safe enough.
He'd seen Rivendell before - from the air, that is. He'd always though it would be a nice place to stop for a while. Now that he was here, it exceeded his expectations.
Elrond was watching him. Closely.
"Must you stare?"
"Do they know?"
"I beg your pardon?"
Elrond just looked at Bilbo as if he could see right through him. Oh.
"No. And if everything works out, then they never shall."
"It is an unfortunate aspect in life that very little works out as we plan."
They left the next evening.
Rain was not something Bilbo was fond of. Getting crushed even less so.
Goblins. Incineration was looking better and better.
What an odd creature. Mad, clearly, but Bilbo hadn't riddled since he'd lived in his mother's cave. And what in the name of all his horde was the crawler shrieking on about?
That Orc again! Oh, he was very close to setting him on fire. Then again, getting up close and painting his hands in blood was also an appealing option.
Damn eagles! He had been so close!
It seemed, perhaps, that Thorin was might be worthy after all. If they get to the mountain in one piece, that is.
