Bilbo could smell the wizard a mile off. Gandalf was visiting.
He hadn't been by in years, and Bilbo had begun to wonder if maybe he'd died somewhere along the way. But no, apparently not, because here he was at his front gate. His dissection of 'Good Morning' left something to be desired, but the wizard seemed harmless enough. Or...not.
"We do not want any adventures here!"
and Bilbo shut the door quite hard on his way in.
The Baginses never had any children of their own, and while they had relations coming out of their ears, Belladonna and Bungo had the sense of mind to write Bilbo into their will and leave him with Bag End and all it's contents. A poor dragon he would have been if he so easily lost some of his treasure. Because Bag End was treasure, and no mistake.
Confounded dwarves! His lair invaded and his horde disturbed and did they have no propriety? Although, they did tidy up quite well, and the three little ones were quiet entertaining. But could they let him know why they were here?
Oh. They wanted the mountain. Or rather, they wanted to get rid of him.
"Flash if light, searing pain, and..."
oh dear, oh dear. And they wanted him to go with them. They were going to kill him. Oh, why did he every go near that cursed hill.
"No."
And he fainted onto the carpet.
But these dwarves didn't smell like he remembered in the mountain. Perhaps....perhaps they never would. Perhaps he could give them their mountain back...perhaps an adventure wasn't such a bad idea after all.
