Oh boy, I dated bad boys because I am also a fixer who is quite controlling... I also wrote off the nice boys for years. Then I ended up marrying one. Hmmph. Go figure :P

Hmm, it definitely hasn't been my experience that nice people always have the weaker personality or aren't assertive, so I don't know. I mean, they can be, but a lot of the emotionally strongest people I've known have also been really good, nice people. Hmm, but maybe I'm also looking at it a different way.

As for this:

its not that "nice" guys aren't emotionally strong...i guess mean in the way that they express themselves.

and stymie, i could be wrong, but im pretty sure that ive heard you say something about how girls only like jerks and not nice guys. you better not be a jackass-in-hiding! ;)

Hmm, I dunno, I've always said I thought when guys used that line, it was usually BS, I'd be pretty sure I never said that. Who knows, though. ;-)

i've always been the "nice" guy. it sucks. but my theory was different. mine was something like: "girls slut around for dickheads then they come after us when they want to get married. and thats when i will have my revenge."

I'm a fixer. I'm also the oldest, so I've always felt like I had to carry everyone else, at least emotionally.

This would be funny if it weren't so sad, because I could've written it myself. But I was fixing things for someone like you;)

Be glad that you at least got through that crappy childhood with enough self-esteem to even *have* a dating life, so that you could figure this out now instead of right before your kid does!
