Later that night, Taemin went back to his apartment. He checked his zone and found his notifications empty as always. Taemin never cared about his zone all this time, the last time he updated was back in high school.
Leaning on his sofa to get a bit more comfortable, he found himself to be hungry. Oh right, “Dinner.” Talking about dinner…
“Today’s Friday,” he muttered, pushing himself up from the sofa and took out his Comm.”Friday means family dinner.” His mother gave him this device back in college, rarely bringing it to anywhere. It was unnecessary; only his mother had contacted him using it.
Taemin pushed a button, a few clicks here and there: 1 message. “Accept message.
The screen turned black as he placed it on the carpeted floor of the living room. A holographic figure of his mother appeared. It looked real enough, but not enough to let her know he’s shirtless.
Taemin gazed at his mother, always perfect. Her emotions were - looking at her frown and her already made dress - yup, she's upset.
“Lee Taemin, you better have an excuse for not coming to our family dinner,” stern and caring. That’s his mother, alright. “We waited for an hour. I did. Your father wanted to talk with you, about your new mysterious job. I don’t know why you wanted to work so much, you’re still so young.”
Taemin placed a frozen pizza inside his microwave oven, whistling.
“I love you, Taeminnie. You know that. Your father… you know how he is. He’s still… Taemin.” She sighed. If only Taemin had bothered to even look at the holographic. He would’ve seen how a mother looks like, worried and anxious, for her son’s was out there alone. Worse, it wasn’t that near with their house.
He should've guess why. There were 15 districts. Taemin stayed in the 4th, specialized in Medications. His mother was in District 1st, only for the noble ones.
“This Sunday. Come home and let us discuss about your new life. Okay?” her voice turned gentle at the end. “Be safe and eat well, I love you.”
It’s been an hour since he ate his pizza.
Taemin still felt hungry as ever.

Night passed by quickly, in the blink of an eye, Taemin realized he was already inside the room Wolf stayed. It’s funny, how he wasn’t conscious of his doings all this time.
All this time, Lee Taemin only does what he has to do. Kindergarten, check. Elementary school, check. Middle school, already check. High school and college, all check. What needs to be done has to be done. He followed his parents every day quotes. As if you were going from point A to point B, with no attempt of knowing or tracking back at what happened in the middle of it.
“Memories are for the pathetic ones. Just do what you need to do.” His father once told Taemin.
It should’ve been the same with his work. It should have been a check. Then, get married. Check. Get children. Check. Die. Check. It should have been like the rest of his life was before. But it’s different. He remembered Wolf, he remembers everything that happened yesterday. He remembers things.
“Wolf,” Taemin called out. “Where are y-“
“I’m right behind you.” Taemin felt a tap on his shoulder, jumping in surprise. He twirled around and saw Wolf, grinning. “Surprise.”
Wolf crouched down, walking in four. “You’re exactly 12 seconds early, not bad. For a Psy.” His furry back showed in front of Taemin as he climbed up to his bed.
Taemin noticed something was different. Well, the short blue pants and the black wife beater were still adorned on the mutant’s just like yesterday.
Wolf looked different.
“You look different,” Taemin said out loud. He didn’t regret saying it, instead he waited for Wolf’s reaction. “New hairstyle?” He joked, his tone awkward and...awkward.
Wolf stayed silent, his arms crossed. And then, the corner of his mouth lifted into a smirk. “Injection.” He extended his arms out; just like yesterday.
Taemin did what he need to do, he didn’t tried to ask about Wolf’s history. He was… afraid. Because he knew that Wolf can change him. Just like how Wolf had gotten rid of his numbness towards life.
What a scary wolf he is.
chapter 3 (II) note: this is the first time taemin observed on something/someone and remembers them. he's just...yeah. xD also this story is inspired by a few post-apocalyptic novels I've read. It's not as great as the authors wrote but I enjoy writing this. I hope you do too haha. This is my first to publish a story on LJ. So thank you for reading!
