I just got back from seeing Serenity (didn't just finish seeing it but I just got back)!!!! I have insane amounts of love for Joss Whedon and that movie.
It was so fun seeing it with such a receptive/fanatical crowd. It was awesome to hear the uproarious laughter when Jayne said something stupid, the applause when Serenity lead the reavers into attack, and the emotion when Wash died (even though most of us knew it was coming).
YES! My crowd was TOTALLY responsive to almost everything - & we cheered & hollered like CRAZY at certain parts!
& as I said, I totally screamed when Wash got killed - it was a reflex! How did YOUR crowd react?
I still feel heartbroken when Boook and Wash die. I'm still worried for the rest of our heroes when they're fighting the reavers, even though I know they'll win in the end. By the time Simon get's shot I still feel like I can't take anymore and that Joss is one crazy bastard even though I KNOW they'll all make it through.& another huge YES! to all of that - I was literally holding my breath through HALF of the film, especially the Reaver battle against the Alliance - I just kept breathing in these great whooshes, I

Our crowd didn't freak when Wash was killed but there were definitely sad/shocked noises. I was mostly interested in my friend's reaction (she'd never seen the movie before) and she freaked out a little (which I TOTALLY understand).
I always have a little freak out when Simon gets shot, even though I KNOW he's going to be all right. I think I just remember the feeling it evoked in me the first time I saw the film (me freaking out and totally shocked) and I have the same feeling every time I see it now.
Joss Whedon rules my world, he really does. That movie is just the best ever, I've seen it too many times to count. You should watch the director's commentary on the DVD, it's really fun. OH GOD GO. Go to the showing, go go googogogogogogo! Sing along! Laugh! Cry! GO TO THE SHOWING.
I need to watch "Serenity" again. I've only seen it once. Come to think of it, I need to buy the "Firefly" boxed-set for myself. I purchased it as a gift for someone a few years ago, but haven't purchased my own copy yet.
I wonder if Joss is still attached to the in-development big-screen version of "Wonder Woman?" I thought I remembered hearing that he had dropped out of the project.
OMG, THE EGYPTIAN IS DOING A SING-ALONG OF OMWF????
I AM SO TOTALLY GOING!!!
I've been to a few midnight showings there and it's always fun! Actually, I saw Serenity at one of them. Heh. :D
Completely agree with everything you said about the film. It's amazing that it can still affect us so much even when we know all the plot points. Joss is my hero. And YES, he needs to come back to TV. I'm kicking myself so hard that I didn't get into his work until after everything was off the air.
I'm still not 100% sure that I'm going (I really have some kind of serious aversion to planning anything in advance) but I'm hoping to go Friday night/saturday morning (I wasn't entirely sure if it was being shown thurs/fri & fri/sat or fri/sat & sat/sun...things at midnight are hard to plan).
I hate LJ right now. It's not sending me comments. :(

I very much am planning on going to the showing. I don't know how much actual singing along I'll do but I want to be there. :)

Joss left (or was asked to leave) the WW project. I think his ideas for WW and the studio's ideas were clashing.
